Between the 15-16 January, EUAqua.Org kicked off at the beautiful and historic University of Padova; a reward for all the hard work of proposal team over 2023 and 2024!
The University of Padua is one of Europe’s oldest and most prestigious seats of learning. Founded in 1222, Padua’s Studium Patavinum was a place of study that readily welcomed Italian students and scholars, as well as those from various European countries searching for cultural freedom and expression. This freedom continues to define and express the essence of the University through its motto as Universa universis patavina libertas. Intertwined within the story of the University of Padua are the many illustrious figures who lived, studied and taught in this city. Such famous names included those who have changed the cultural and scientific history of humanity, from Copernicus to Vesalius, Galileo, to William Harvey, to the more modern Tullio Levi-Civita, Concetto Marchesi, Giuseppe ‘Bepi’ Colombo and many others.

The EUAqua.Org project officially started on January 1, 2025. Chaired by the Coordinator, Prof Luca Bargelloni from the University of Padova, the meeting comprised presentations from each of the Work Packages describing their objectives and activities over the duration of the project. There was also the opportunity for the related Work Packages to discuss technical strategy and approach for the coming year.
During the evening of Day 1, the project team were treated to a fine meal at the famous Caffè Pedrocchi ; once famous for intellectual discussions from some of the Europe's most eminent academics over fine Italian coffee and food!
The project team will now begin the hard work! Over the next 6 months, each partner will begin their related tasks and activities to ultimately realise the project's ambitious goals. The project team will meet next in Valencia in September as part of the Aquaculture 2025 conference.
