The University of Padova/Padua was founded in 1222. It is the second-oldest university in Italy (after Bologna).The University was one of the most prominent universities in early modern Europe, known particularly for the rigor of its Aristotelian logic and science. It is famous for a number of Italian Renaissance mathematicians, including Nicolaus Copernicus. It is currently made up of 32 departments, eight schools, and with approximately 72,000 students.
The mission of the Department is to pursue excellence in research and education within all disciplines pertaining to veterinary medicine. Its aim is to develop basic and applied science, and its main research topics cover: basic science applied to veterinary medicine; intra-specific genetic polymorphism in species of veterinary and production interest; food safety and food quality in relation to consumer health and pathology and comparative medicine.The staff is composed of 42 professors and researchers, 23 technicians and administrative employees, 15 PhD students and 14 research fellows. Laboratories and facilities are fully equipped for teaching and research activities. Services are also available as support to animal owners and veterinarians.

Professor Bargelloni has huge experience in the coordination of national and international project management, including FP7, H2020 and Horizon Europe projects and has worked extensively within the fields of aquatic biology and genomics.
